    ​MONDAY -Introduction to the play, The Royale
    Daily Objective:
    • I can read and discuss the background and context of the play, The Royale.
    • I can view and take notes on the PBS video, Unforgivable Blackness,The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson
    Instruction/Activity/Assessment
    Introduce the storyline of The Royale and review the history of segregation in America, and segregation of sports in America.
    Students will take notes, discuss video clips, and write a short biography of Jack Johnson as preparation for the field trip to see The Royale.

    WEDNESDAY
    Daily Objective:
    I can analyze the play’s main characters and theme.
    I can discuss and analyze the historical and cultural context for this story
    I can write a reflection (opinion based) paper after seeing The Royale.
    Instruction/Activity/Assessment
    Discussion- characters, theme, and historical and cultural context.

    Writing prompt:
    What is the main idea/theme of the play and what does it say about the time in which it was set? Are the ideas set forth in this play still relevant today? How?  Support your answer with specific details and examples from the play.

    Theme graphic organizer - makes connections between theme and evidence from the story

    THURSDAY
    Daily Objective: WOW vocabulary and completing The Royale lessons Biography paragraph and reflection on themes
    I can acquire new vocabulary by finding examples, synonyms, and using the word in a sentence with proper context and form.
    I can analyze the The Royale’s main character and theme.
    I can discuss and analyze the historical and cultural context for this story
    Instruction/Activity/Assessment
    Wow Practice
    Turn in notes chart and other graphic organizers.
    Finish biography paragraph from Monday and Theme Reflection from Wed.
