MONDAY -Introduction to the play, The Royale Daily Objective: Introduce the storyline of The Royale and review the history of segregation in America, and segregation of sports in America. Students will take notes, discuss video clips, and write a short biography of Jack Johnson as preparation for the field trip to see The Royale. I can discuss and analyze the historical and cultural context for this story I can write a reflection (opinion based) paper after seeing The Royale. Writing prompt: What is the main idea/theme of the play and what does it say about the time in which it was set? Are the ideas set forth in this play still relevant today? How?
